The Ultimate Guide to Choosing a Pet
Hi, everyone! I want to start at the beginning of every animal lover's journey and talk about getting a first pet. I understand that there are plenty of animal lovers out there that just don't know where to start. Here I have for you, the ultimate guide for choosing a pet! These are just a few pets that I feel would work great for individuals based on their activity levels, daily schedules, experience, as well as some other key factors.
1. Fish

Fish are great to keep as a first pet! Depending on the breed, they can be inexpensive and they're very low maintenance, aside from tank cleaning and water changes. Fish make a great first pet for children, teaching them responsibility, and how to care for another living organism. As you advance, you can buy more sophisticated tanks and various breeds.
2. Dogs

Dog behaviors and personalities vary from breed to breed. Generally, dogs are ideal for families that are somewhat active, or at least willing to keep their dog's activity level up to where it should be. They love giving affection, as well as receiving it which makes them the perfect companion animal. Dogs are by far the most popular owned animals, and you can't really go wrong with one!
3. Cats

Cats are known to be independent creatures, but make wonderful companions for pet owners. They will sleep for the majority of the day but are very curious and playful at times. They are great for busy owners that won't be around all day. As long as they have a litter box, food, and water, they're all set!
4. Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs are very sociable animals, so it is best to have two at a time. They are intelligent and can be kept busy with toys and treats. Some are happy to be touched and groomed by owners, while others may keep more to themselves. Guinea pigs are best for families and adults. They don't have to be tended to constantly, so they make a great pet for busy owners.
5. Bearded Dragons

Bearded dragons are one of the many reptiles that you can keep as a pet. They are also one of the only reptiles known to demonstrate affection and bond with their owner over time. Most beardies are docile and love affection. They are happy to live alone in their tank and are very easy to feed. Bearded dragons are great for individuals of any age. The only downside to owning a beardie is that you should be cautious and wash your hands thoroughly after handling them since they are known to have salmonella bacteria in their feces.
Owning a pet is a huge responsibility, so having one that best suits your lifestyle is very important. Pets add a sense of love and purpose to life. They develop very strong bonds with their owners and become a part of their family. There are numerous benefits to owning a pet. Pets are actually known to improve your health!
Hopefully, this list gave you an idea as to what type of pet you should look into purchasing. Every person is different, and so is every animal. Your perfect match is out there waiting for you; all you have to do is find it!
